Having a skincare routine at home is vital with regards to maintaining a healthy complexion, however, you can elevate your skin-care by investing in professional facial therapies that are increasingly focusing on maintaining a level of “skin fitness”.
As a facial specialist myself, I treat a variety of skin concerns and skin conditions, each needing a multi faceted approach to target the results desired.
The resounding appeal of a facial used to be seen as a ‘pampering treat’. However, with new technologies and ingredients emerging, the humble facial is now set to focus on the health of the skin, understanding the benefits of combining a hands on approach, (facial massage) that can reawaken tired fatigued muscles and partner this with high tech machines that can help resurface the skin (microdermabrasion) or boost collagen and elastin and even treat acne scaring and sun damage by accelerating tissue repair (LED Light Therapy). For me, it’s all about educating the client on their skin as well as performing a facial that fits their personal requirements. I like to send my clients away knowing more about their skin type and concern and how they can treat this from the comfort of their own home. ‘Knowledge is power’ as the saying goes, so being able to advise others on how to look after their skin can really empower and demystify a lot of myths behind skin care .
The Importance of a Consultation
The consultation/conversation with your skin therapist is just as important as receiving the actual facial therapy. Talking to a professional about your skin concerns, general lifestyle and overall health will really enable the therapist to gather the information needed to understand what your concerns are and design a treatment plan bespoke to what you need.
They will also explain the advantages of regular treatments, whilst considering your personal budget and how much time you have to commit to them.
A ‘one time’ facial can be seen as a luxury rather than a necessity, which can focus primarily on the soothing and relaxing experience. However, a long term course of treatments over a suggested period of time, is an effective way of investing in your skin and general wellbeing, especially if you are treating a number of concerns.
A variety of facial therapies can then be discussed and a course of treatments designed to zone in on what you require, addressing the concerns highlighted in your consultation.
Investing in your skin and wellbeing
Depending upon what you want to achieve from your facial, making a conscious decision to receive regular
treatments will ensure that you give your skin and underlying systems the attention it needs. I approach each treatment as an intensive skin-rejuvenating session that also encourages the body to recover and re connect to the parasympathetic nervous system. Relaxation techniques are used through the power of touch, breath and aroma.
What are the benefits of receiving a facial?
Facials focus on improving the general health of your skin. They can provide both instant and long term effects depending on the type of facial chosen. Skin Rejuvenation can cover a selection of outcomes; plumping fine lines and wrinkles, removing dead skin cells to promote radiance whilst increasing the efficacy levels of layering other products through the duration of the treatment.
How often should you schedule in a facial?
Your skin cell turnover cycle is around 28 days, therefore, a general guide is to visit your facial specialist once a month. Your skin will also be exposed to different elements from month to month. For example hormonal fluctuations, seasonal changes, lifestyle choices, stress, diet and environmental exposures (sun, wind, heating, air conditioning) will all impact your skin.
If you are committing to advanced facial treatments such as a hydra facial, then these may only be recommended once every 3 months. This is why it is important to have a through consultation with your facial specialist to ensure you are receiving the right time frame/interval between each appointment.
