In Conversation with Elle McNamara @bambidoesbeauty Beauty, Wellness and Lifestyle

Empowering natural beauty and an effortless style, Elle infuses her social media pages with relatable, topical and honest skin, body and hair care reviews, weaving in advice she has learnt along the way from her own journey within the beauty industry.

Simple but informative tutorials and her less is more approach, seem to be a winning combination when it come to her supportive followers.

Elle’s page exudes millennial pink tones and creative texture images, captured along side her natural skin shots which are all definitely lust worthy!

Her dream job became a reality in 2018 when she got asked to write for Glamour UK as their skincare guru and columnist, showing that hard work and dedication really does make dreams come true!

It was an amazing opportunity for me to be able to ask Elle a selection of questions based on her love and passion for all things beauty. I discovered what inspires her, how she incorporates wellness into her lifestyle, whilst sharing her current top 5 skincare must-have essentials for the coming Winter months....

What inspired you and gave you the drive to begin and to maintain such a successful career as a skincare and beauty influencer?  My story is a little unorthodox compared to most influencers (who often start their career in the beauty industry as beauty editors etc).

I moved home in 2016 after a string of unsuccessful career attempts in London as I just needed some time to recoup and not have to worry about paying rent. I changed my diet and lifestyle and became happier and more motivated to start Bambi (which initially was merely a hobby that I shared with my facebook friends!).

In terms of maintaining the success - it really is like a domino effect, the more work you do and the better brands you work with the more motivated you are to get even better and reach even more success. My followers also really remind me of the importance of what I'm doing and give a little more meaning to what can sometimes be a one dimensional job (particularly Instagram).

Your fresh and innovative approach to decoding beauty and skincare is helping you connect to such a varied audience. From teens just finding their groove with skincare, to others that follow you who value your opinion and trust your product reviews.

Who do you admire and who inspires you within the skincare/beauty industry?

I always look to people who have warm personas, people who I feel are transparent and honest in their work. Down to earth gurus who don't get carried away with their success - that really inspires me.

I've also had the pleasure of working alongside people like Sali Hughes who I'm completely in awe of, her knowledge is so extensive but I just really love the way she approaches things (if you ever get to listen to her be interviewed you'll know what I mean) she's very clever.

Wellness, mindfulness and rituals are becoming a huge part of the way we experience beauty.  Our stress levels, diets and lifestyles can impact how our largest organ, the skin, will eventually reflect certain skin conditions and concerns i.e. accelerated ageing, acne and eczema/psoriasis.  What practices do you apply to ensure you take care of your overall health and wellbeing?  Oooh this is a good one! Haha. I completely agree with that statement. When I moved home, I changed my eating habits and lost about two stone and felt my best self (albeit the weight has creeped on again but I try and manage it a bit more now). My skin was radiant, I had FAR more energy and I rarely suffered breakouts. My vice is sugar and if I were to be disciplined enough to cut down on that again I know my skin would benefit.  As we approach the colder Winter months, what would be your top 5 skincare essentials to encourage a hydrated, healthy, glowing skin?  Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream (a residual cream that I apply morning and night to keep my skin from losing moisture)

The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser (a nourishing cleanser that doesn't strip your skin of it's natural oils which is very important to me)

Glossier Futuredew (albeit a bit of a quick fix - but it will give you a great glow that will take your skin from winter to beach babe)

Skinceuticals C E Ferulic (for skin brightening)

Beautypie Body Polish (the best body scrub I've ever used - leaves skin so hydrated) What are your top tips on achieving that no make-up, make-up look?  - No foundation (only use as a micro concealer)

- Only cream based products (no powders)

- Illuminate! I love the becca cosmetics shimmering skin perfector in pearl

- Use tan complexion product all over the face (no orange toned ones though!) to make me look more alive! Do you get the time to indulge in any type of facial therapies? Which has been your favourite to date and why?

Not as often as you would imagine! I don't live in London and tend to just have facials sometimes when I'm there and have spare time (which isn't that often!) Hmmmmm - they've all been very different, it is crazy who different facialist have such differing views on what's right for our skin. I really enjoyed FaceGym but that was more of a face massage than facial. I love any facial that uses steam, gives extractions and hydrates! I also love a good peel with no downtime - they leave your skin so luminous. What is your signature fragrance for this time of year? I adore Jo Malone White Moss + Snowdrop. If you were to launch your own capsule skincare/make up collection what would be available in your first edit? Top secret hehe. I have recently got into listening to podcasts again. Are you listening to any at the moment or do you have any recommendations?  Me too! My favourites are; - Outspoken Beauty - The Emma Guns Show - On the line with Estee La Londe - Breaking Beauty - The Beauty Podcast with Sali Hughes - Beauty from the Heart with Rose Gallagher

I really admire Elle and the route she has taken into the beauty industry it really is something to aspire to!
