The Ultimate at-home Pedicure

An at home pedicure can really help you to relax and provide some attention to those neglected tootsies. There are many things you can do to transform a quick polishing of the nails, into a real treat by incorporating some of my expert steps.

Checklist for your pedicure

Nail Varnish Remover

Cuticle Cream/remover (optional)

Lint free Pads/cotton wool

Nail Clippers

Nail File

Cuticle Pusher

Foot File

A large bowl for your feet or your bath tub will do!

Body Wash/Bath Salts

Body Exfoliator

Body/Foot Cream

Base Coat

Nail Polish - Choose a colour

Top Coat

Cuticle Oil

Towel

Step 1

Prep your nails

  • Remove any nail vanish currently on your toes with a gentle conditioning remover

  • Cut nails straight across with nail clippers

  • Use your nail file to remove any sharp or uneven edges

  • Apply a cuticle cream at the base of each nail and massage in

Step 2

Prep your feet

  • Gently use your foot file (on dry skin) over any areas of dryness, concentrate on the heel of the foot and anywhere else there is a build up of hardened, rough skin

  • Dampen your hands and apply some of your chosen body scrub and massage each foot, focusing on the areas of particular dryness - now soak the feet for a few minutes in a large bowl of warm water

Tip: Add in your favourite bath salts or body wash to your foot bowl of water sit back and relax!

Step 3

Cuticle Care

  • Dry one foot at a time and place on a dry towel

  • Use either a stainless steel cuticle pusher or a slanted orange wood stick to gently push back any overgrown cuticle away from the nail plate

Step 4

Foot Massage

  • Apply your favourite body or foot cream and gently massage each foot for a good 2-3 minutes. You can even focus on specific reflex points on the foot to help increase a sense of wellbeing

Step 5

Paint And Nourish

  • Using a lint free pad or cotton wool pad apply a small amount of nail vanish remover and wipe over the nails to ensure any remaining oils are removed. You can gently buff the nails at this point to remove any ridges to provide a smoother surface for your polish

  • Apply your base coat and leave to dry for 1-2 minutes

  • Follow with two coats of your chosen polish colour

  • Apply your top coat

Tip: When applying your top coat seal the free edge of each nail to prevent colour from chipping. Once dry apply a nail oil around the nail and cuticle area to nourish and give a glossy finish.
